If you want to let others know about your opinions or your whereabouts, what better place to share them if not on Twitter? Twitter came as a blessing to us in the form of a mobile app in 2006 which was designed by Evan Williams and Biz Stone who were both former Google employees.
With its unique and distinct features such as ‘tweets’ and adding up to 4 pictures within a tweet, this mobile app gained immense popularity in the social networking platform. Ever wondered how many people use this app on a daily basis? Let’s just say a huge number of people.
Everyday 145 million people across the world use this app either from their mobile phones, laptops or computers and on a monthly basis, a whooping 330 million users. It should not come as a surprise that with such a huge user base the number of tweets posted per minute comes around 350,000 and on a daily basis, 500 million tweets! Now those are too many words for a single day.
TWITTER AND ITS INTERESTING FACTS:
As I mentioned earlier, Twitter has a huge user base which allows people to share their views and opinions and of course how can we forget memes! The app saw its peak in September 2019 when it backed up a good $35.01 billion and its lowest in November 2019 with $23.01 billion.
However, this amazing mobile application was merely a side project initiated by a podcasting platform called Odeo and was known as “twttr” at that time. If you are not a 2000’s kid you might not know the reason behind this odd name. Back in 2000’s there was this trend where the vowels in a word were removed to look “cooler” and hence the name.
The name “Twitter” refers to chirps of birds or small bursts of inconsequential information which was thought to be apt for a mobile app with its given features. Twitter’s logo is something that everyone is aware of but how many of them are aware that the bird in the logo has a name too? Surprising isn’t it? Well I’m here to tell you that the bird is named Larry.
However, the name was not officially confirmed until 2012 when a twitter manager- Ryan Sarver tweeted about this. March 21st 2006 marks the day when the first ever tweet was posted using this mobile app and it was done by Jack Dorsey, one of the co-founders of Twitter.
So, these were some of the lesser-known facts about the app that almost everyone that loves to share their views and opinions has downloaded in their mobile phones. Not only does Twitter help in this aspect, but it also brings together like-minded people across countries with the help of the global platform that it provides its users.
